Handcrafted Aluminium E-Type Recreations

The Lightweight & the Low Drag.

Reimagined for the road. A small, deliberate programme of handcrafted aluminium coachwork in two of the most revered forms the marque's racing era ever produced.

Handbuilt E-Types, built with soul.

Since 1993

Lanes Cars has lived with the E-Type since 1993 — buying, selling, restoring and rebuilding these cars for over three decades. From that deep well of knowledge comes this: entirely new aluminium coachwork, hand-formed in the old way, built for a genuine donor E-Type and finished by specialists who understand these cars in their bones.

The Bodies

Two forms. One singular craft.

The Lightweight

The aluminium-bodied form that famously shed some 114kg from the standard road car, honouring the twelve aluminium originals built and sold to chosen privateers.

  • Form Aluminium open competition body
  • Weight saving ≈ 114kg vs. standard road car
  • Lineage The twelve aluminium originals
The Low Drag

The closed aerodynamic coupé form, crafted in the idiom of the celebrated Lindner-Nöcker car — shaped entirely around airflow and high-speed stability.

  • Form Closed aerodynamic coupé
  • Character Shaped around airflow
  • Idiom The celebrated Lindner-Nöcker car
The Craft · Gregson Polska

Hand-formed in the old way.

Each body is hand-formed in aluminium by Gregson Polska, an independent, third-generation workshop of master coachbuilders, over traditional timber bucks and the famous English Wheel. They utilise the slow, exacting craft that aluminium competition coachwork has always demanded — with Lanes Cars acting as the sole worldwide point of supply.

Production is held deliberately small. Gregson Polska forms no more than eight aluminium bodies a year, and never more than two commissions in any single quarter — the only pace at which coachwork of this kind can be executed properly. Each is a singular artefact, and once a quarter's allocations are taken, they are gone.

An Era Worth Honouring

The cars this coachwork recalls belong to one of the richest chapters in British motorsport — the road-going E-Type launched by Sir William Lyons in 1961, and the aluminium Lightweight that carried its competition spirit onto the world's circuits. We claim no part of that heritage and no official association with its maker. We simply hold it in the highest regard it deserves, and build coachwork worthy of the memory.

How It Works

Each craft stays in the right hands.

The programme is structured transparently. Lanes Cars does not assemble the completed vehicle — our role is strictly limited to supply, guidance, making the right specialist introductions, and handling registration: the parts where three decades of E-Type knowledge count for most.

01 Lanes Cars

Supply & Guidance

We supply the handcrafted aluminium body and expertly guide your project from the first conversation to a correctly registered car.

02 You

The Donor E-Type

You provide a genuine donor E-Type (six-cylinder, RHD or LHD) to serve as the structural foundation — or Lanes Cars can source and supply one on request.

03 Trade Specialists

The Build

Independent specialists covering paint, fabrication and the final mechanical build — whom we know, trust and recommend — carry out the assembly, contracted by and answerable directly to you.

04 Lanes Cars

Registration

We provide comprehensive registration consultancy, navigating the complex DVLA / IVA framework so your finished vehicle reaches the road correctly registered and accurately described.

The Donor

Central, not optional.

The donor E-Type is central, not optional. Building upon a genuine historic vehicle chassis is what gives these cars their true character, their correct registration identity, and their long-term integrity. We can advise on sourcing a suitable donor vehicle where required.

Registration & Global Shipping

Registered transparently, for exactly what it is.

Every completed car is registered transparently for exactly what it is — a new-built recreation — processed through the proper, official IVA route. It is never represented as an original, factory-period racing car.

United States · California

For our clients in the United States, we can expertly assist with compliance and registration for road use in the State of California.

Worldwide Shipping

Professional shipping assistance is available worldwide, handled with the same care that defines every stage of the programme.
