Arnold who was a great motoring and racing fan heard rumours of Jaguar developing a V12 engine and ordered the car before the spec was finalised.

He was disappointed when the car arrived with the trusty 4.2 litre straight six and soon sold it to his brother Stanley, who kept it for a
reasonable period of time.

The car was exported to Jersey in the 1974 and returned to the UK in December 1984.

It was then bought at a Sotheby’s auction by Digby Hulme, a motoring enthusiast who kept it for over 25 years.

In the mid 90s a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration at a cost of £75,000 was carried out by Vintage Carriage Company of whom one of the directors of this company was Murray Walker the F1 commentator.

A 5 speed Getrag gearbox was fitted at this time, which is believed to have been the first Jaguar E Type to have been fitted with this upgrade.

First manufactured in November 1955 by Jaguar Cars Coventry this XK140 Jaguar LHD which was one of only 1965 XK140 FHC made for export, & retains its original 3.4 – 6 cylinder Jaguar engine & was first registered in America to its first owner Mr E Fredlund in New York in February 1956.

Having had only 2 owners in the last 55 years and purchased by its last owner of 27 years in 1996 and imported back to the UK from its former US owner of 28 years, who achieved concours winning success with his body off restoration XK140 at the North California America Jaguar Club events in 1994.

In 2005, the car underwent a mechanical overhaul by Guy Broad XK Specialists, which included an engine rebuild and cylinder head conversion for unleaded fuel. Additionally, the following upgrades were also supplied and fitted, including Power Assisted Steering, 5-speed Gearbox, Front Disc Brake conversion, and a High-performance Radiator with an electric cooling fan and was also re-trimmed in 2005.

Since then, the previous owner has covered a few thousand miles and entrusted the maintenance of the XK140 to Draysons of Kensington from 1997 to 2017. In 2014, a new clutch was fitted.

Over the past 27 years, the car has been garaged in Central London and primarily used for Jaguar events, rallies, and occasional outings both here in the UK and Europe with one of it’s last Jaguar rallies attending  the XK70 year celebrations in June 2018.

As a result, it has a lovely original patina and continues to drive exceptionally well, benefitting still from its modern-day upgrades supplied and fitted by Guy Board XK Specialists significantly enhancing the performance, reliability, and overall driving experience, whilst still preserving its classic aesthetic, which also benefits from free from Road Tax, MOT requirements, and exempt from all Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) regulations and charges.

Who should you complain to?

What will we do next?
Our aim is to provide a satisfactory solution as speedily as possible. We will endeavour to sort out the problem there and then. In some cases further investigation may be required, in which case we will try to provide an answer by the end of the next working day following receipt of your complaint.

If this is not possible, we will send you a written acknowledgement within five working days of receipt. This will state the name of the person who is dealing with your complaint, their contact details and confirm our understanding of the nature of your concerns.
When will we contact you again?
We will either provide our final response to your complaint within four weeks of receipt, or we will write to you to explain why we have not been able to do so and when we expect to make further contact.

We only rebuild five to six Jaguars annually for our clients, including our replica aluminium Lightweight & Linden Nocker Low Dargs to ensure we allow the time to be able to rebuild each one to the highest standard possible &  eligible for our unique 2 year no quibble warranty thereafter.

All Classic Jaguar Cars we rebuild are stripped, catalogued and where possible the original parts are refurbished to as new condition ready for reassembly, with required machine work undertaken by specialist machine shops for our ICE drivetrains, which are then rebuilt in house. Any aftermarket parts &  upgrades required are also purchased well in advance of the workshop assembly & is time to coincide with the completed bodyshells return to our workshop.

Having restored and rebuilt over 80 Jaguar E Types in our house bodyshop from 1993 to 2024, we fully understand the complexes of Jaguar Cars construction & now use three classic Jaguar specialist body shops that we have long standing relationships with, who are well respected in the Jaguar circles to meet our deadlines, you can also be assured we actively supervise at each stage the bodyshells reconstruction & fabrication, before it’s finally painted in the chosen exterior colour & before returning to our workshops for assembly.

Once the assembly comenceses & all components needed for the final build are available on the workshop shelves, our team has total control of the overall quality of the final build and components supplied and fitted.

On completion of each car built in our workshop, we carry out extensive road testing before the new interior is fitted.

With the final road test and detailed clearing before delivery, to ensure that your enjoyment of your classic Jaguar can be from the first turn of the ignition key.

E Type an Automotive Icon

The impact of the E-Type was truly significant, not only for Jaguar but for the entire automotive industry. It was one of the most iconic and influential cars of the 20th century, and it continues to be celebrated and admired by car enthusiasts and collectors around the world.

First introduced to the public by Sir William Lyons at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1961, it caused a sensation. Its sleek, aerodynamic design and impressive performance capabilities made it an instant hit with car enthusiasts and the public alike.

Originally Jaguar only planned to produce just 250 E-Types, but such was the demand for the car, they quickly had to increase production to keep up. They even had to lay a new track at their factory in order to accommodate the increased production. By the time production ended in 1975, over 72,000 E-Types had been produced and there is estimated 38,000 known to have survived.

Sir Williams Lyons ‘E Type’ burst onto the scene in 1961 at the 31st Geneva Motor Show, with his now legendary E Type, which arrived just 20 minutes before the public was due to arrive after Bob Berry, a Jaguar Executive had volunteered to drive the now famous one of two E Types the 700 miles at speeds not mentioned, from Jaguars headquarters in Coventry, England to Parc des Eaux-Vives in Geneva Switzerland for Jaguars Motor Show Stand.

Who knows if it was all part of Jaguar Cars marketing strategy? Bob Berry’s epic journey to deliver the car to the adoring public has become almost as well-known as the car itself.

With the overwhelming response to the E Type FHC, Sir William Lyons ordered Norman Dewis, Jaguars Cheif Test Drive to bring a S1 3.8 Roadster to Geneva to maximise on the frenzy of the press and public response alike.

Faced with an unexpected deluge of orders, the first personal E-Type Jaguar sale was believed to have been to M. Jacques Charrier, husband of Brigitte Bardot, the French film star. He flew to Geneva from Rome the day after its launch to order and test drive the 150 mph car.
